How to set up your account

How do I get online access to my policy documents?

When you buy one of these products online, choose online documents:

  • Car insurance
  • Home insurance
  • Travel insurance
  • Home Membership

When you get a quote online we'll ask if you want to receive your policy documents online. When you choose online documents and buy a policy we'll email you with a web link for setting up a My AA account where you can access your documents.

Choose online documents when you buy a policy over the phone

If you want to receive your documents online we'll ask you for your email address so we can send you an email when your documents are ready. Your email will include a web link for setting up a My AA account.

If you already have a policy and received your documents by post you can call us to switch to online documents.

What type of username can I use?

Your username should be at least two characters long, it should not include any spaces, semi-colons (;) or asterisks (*). You can use your email address as your username.

What type of password can I use?

Your password should be at least eight characters long and should include at least one number. Your password will be case-sensitive.

Why do I need to give my email address to register?

We'll use your email address to let you know when your policy documents are available online.

We'll also use your email address to keep in touch with you about your policy. For example, if you adjust your cover we'll send you an email to let you know that your new documents are available to view online.

If you forget your password, we'll send you an email with a new temporary password.

Please enter a valid email address to register (eg anne@example.com).

Registration problems

I haven't received an email to say my documents are ready, what should I do?

We may still be preparing your online documents for you. We'll send an email as soon as your documents are ready. We aim to have your documents ready on the day you buy your policy or ask for a quote.

Double check your email inbox to make sure that the email we've sent you has not been treated as spam by your email software.

If you're sure you haven't received an email, please call us.

Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm.

The link in the email you sent me isn't working, can I still set up my online account?

Yes, you can still set up an account. When you set up your account you'll be asked to enter your unique reference number. You can find this nine-digit number in the email we send you when your policy documents are available online.

Sign in problems

What happens if I forget my password?

Step 1

Click Forgotten your password? and we'll ask you for your username and email address. We'll email you a new temporary password.

Step 2

When you have received the email, sign in with your temporary password.

Step 3

After you've signed in, you can create a new, more memorable password.

What happens if I forget my username?

Enter your email address you used when registering your My AA account. We'll then email you your username to you.






What happens if I make a mistake when entering my sign in details?

If you enter your details incorrectly on three consecutive attempts, where these attempts are all within 15 minutes of each other, you will be locked out for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes you will be able to sign in again.

We lock your account as a security measure to prevent repeated attempts to gain unauthorised access to the account.

Using your online My AA account

What can I do with my online account?

1. You can access policy documents for can view correspondence related to your policy for these products:

Car insurance
Home insurance
Travel insurance
Home Membership

2. You can also view car or home insurance quotes which we have given you online or over the phone.

3. If you have more than one policy with us, you can add your other policy to your My AA and access your policy documents online.

Documents are available in PDF format, which means you can save them to your computer for easy access.

Can I view my breakdown cover documents online?

No, unfortunately breakdown cover documents are not available online yet, but we plan to make them available in the future.

What reference do I need to enter to add a policy to my account?

Please enter the unique reference number for these policies:
Car insurance
Home insurance
Travel insurance
Home Membership

This nine-digit number can be found in the email we send when your documents are ready to view online. We may also give you this reference over the phone when you buy a policy.

For car or home insurance quotes, please enter your web or phone quote reference.

Can I change my direct debit details online?

No. Please call us if you want to change your direct debit details.

I have set up an account online but I can't see my documents online?

We may still be preparing your documents for you. We'll send you an email as soon as your documents are ready.

We aim to have your documents ready on the day you buy your policy or ask for online access to a quote we've given you.

If you don't receive an email confirmation that your documents are ready, please call us.

How do I change my account username for My AA?

Follow these steps to change your My AA username:

  1. Log in to your My AA account with your existing username.
  2. On the first page of My AA under 'Profile', choose Change my username.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

From the My AA sign in page, select Change my password to change your password. Just enter your old password, then a new one that you choose.

How to add a policy to your account

I have two AA policies, how do I add the second one to my account?

If you have more than one policy and have registered for My AA with one of your policies already you can add another policy like this:

Step 1

Click the Add Policy or Quote link in the menu on the left-hand side of any My AA page.

Step 2

Enter your unique reference number, this is the nine-digit number shown in the email we send when the documents for the policy you want to add are available online.

Step 3

Your policy will now be added to your account.

Here are some examples of when you may need to add a policy:

You have a buildings insurance policy underwritten by one insurer, and a contents Insurance policy underwritten by another.

You have included Home Membership with your car or home insurance policy.

Receiving My AA emails

How do I make sure that I receive emails from the AA?

To ensure emails from the AA reach your inbox and aren't treated as spam by your email application, you can add our email address to your 'safe senders' list, if you are using Microsoft Outlook.

If you are using a web based email application like Hotmail or Gmail, adding our email address to your address book or contacts will help to ensure that it isn't treated as spam.

How to open and save PDF documents

I've signed in to my account but can't open my PDF documents, how do I open them?

The documents in your My AA account are in PDF format. To view PDF documents you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader. Acrobat Reader is a free PDF document viewer which is available online.

Download Adobe Acrobat Reader

With Acrobat Reader installed on your computer you can click on a download link and open a PDF document. Once a document opens in Acrobat Reader you can save a copy to your computer.
