Description
The Royal Highland Centre plays host to Scotland's annual Royal Highland Show. Running since 1822, the event embraces every conceivable pastime and pursuit related to farming, the countryside and rural living. Some of the many featured attractions include livestock judging, prize-winning livestock parades, fashion shows, air displays and music of all types, as well as more than 4000 different farm breeds to marvel at. There are even tree rescues, horse logging and pole-climbing competitions.
Events held in the main ring include show jumping, sheep dog demonstrations, massed bands, parachute team displays, forestry equipment competitions and Pony Club games, while newer features include the Organic Pavilion and the International Franchise Pavilions.
The show has increasingly become a launch-pad for new food products and visitors can sample the very best of Scottish fare from more than 100 companies. For green-fingered enthusiasts there is also a Flower Show, now accepted as one of the country's main horticultural events.
