Things to do in Belgium

Here's a round-up of some theme parks in Belgium – your AA Membership Card will earn you a discount, so remember to take it with you.

Bobbejaanland

Bobbejaanland features more than 50 attractions, including a Waterslide and a Giant Wheel. The resident rollercoasters include Revolution, while Typhoon boasts a 97-degree drop.

New king on the block is King Kong – a 12-metre high gorilla, which swings a railway carriage full of people above his head.

Where it is?

Lichtaart, roughly 2 hours' drive from Dunkirk. Ostend will be nearer. Either route can take you through Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp, which is a bit of a result.

Boudewijn Seapark

Talking of Bruges, there's the dolphinarium, albeit a controversial venue. You can catch the dolphins and sealions shows. Plus there's an indoor park called Bobo's Indoor for youngsters, choc full of bouncy inflatables and other child-friendly activities – handy to know if you're beset by inclement weather.

Where is it?

Bruges is roughly an hour's drive from Dunkirk. Ostend is much closer.

Parc Chlorophylle

If you prefer activities with a bit of an educational slant, head to the Ardennes and Parc Chlorophylle (the green substance that enables plants to use light).

Parc Chlorophylle It used to be an old safari park, but the Belgians have fittingly recycled it into a place to embrace all things environmental. Adventures include the floating world of the treetops, plus there's an adventure trail and a cool playground among other things.

Where is it?

Dochamps, in the Ardennes, which is roughly 3 hours from Dunkirk. Ostend is marginally nearer. The route can take you through Brussels.
