Life as a Driving Instructor
Our instructors appreciate the freedom to run their own business. You can choose where you want to work, and the days and hours that fit around the rest of your life.
Our flexible franchise allows you choose whether we supply pupils for you, or whether you can find enough on your own locally.
This is the story of one of our driving instructors who trained with us.
Mole Hogan's story
I joined the AA four years ago as I wanted my own business with no one else to interfere with my diary or customers. This has given me flexibility to work when I want to. It also means that I don't need to worry about running a car myself or worry about it breaking down. I also have the power of a national brand, which in business always helps.
I use the AA Driving School instructor call centre very little as I like to manage issues myself. However, if there are any issues with my car or payments, I can call and resolve the issues easily. It means that if I need someone, they are there.

I love my job. The flexibility and my customers give me so much satisfaction. It is nice to see the look on the faces of learners when they pass their tests, and realise the difference you have just made to their lives. It's nice to give something back in your work. I often keep in touch with my former customers as in the time we've spent together in the lessons we have built a good relationship.
When I joined, I didn't realise the opportunities available to me through driver instructor training (DIT), corporate driver training (CDT) and other qualifications I now have from the AA driving school. The training I have received has led me to have a variety of work – and a very full diary.
