Discovered in 1939 and described as 'page one of English history', this is the site of one of the most important archaeological finds in Britain's history: the complete 7th-century ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king, which had been missed by grave-robbers, and lay undisturbed for 1,300 years. Sutton Hoo displays reveal how Anglo-Saxon nobles lived, went to war and founded a new kingdom in East Anglia. The centre-piece is a full sized replica of an Anglo-Saxon warrior king's burial chamber. The discoveries at Sutton Hoo changed forever our perceptions of the 'Dark Ages', by revealing a culture rich in craftsmanship, trade and legend.
