Oxford University Museum of Natural History

Parks Road, OXFORD, OX1 3PW

Write a review

Built between 1855 and 1860, this museum of the natural sciences was intended to satisfy a growing interest in biology, botany, archaeology, zoology, entomology and so on. The museum reflects Oxford University's position as a 19th-century centre of learning, with displays of early dinosaur discoveries, Darwinian evolution and Elias Ashmole's collection of preserved animals. Although visitors to the Pitt-Rivers Museum must pass through the University Museum, the two should not be confused.
