Dunvegan Castle and Gardens

DUNVEGAN, Isle of Skye, IV55 8WF

Write a review

Dunvegan Castle is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland and has been the stronghold of the chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years. Originally designed to keep people out, it was first opened to visitors in 1933. Romantic and historic, the castle is set amid stunning scenery and beautiful formal gardens. The castle and estate are steeped in history and clan legend, and you can take a boat trip onto Loch Dunvegan to see the seal colony, or stay in one of the charming estate cottages. Previous visitors to the castle have included Sir Walter Scott, Dr Johnson, Queen Elizabeth II and the Japanese Emperor Akihito.
