Scott's Grotto, built in the 1760s by the Quaker poet John Scott, has been described by English Heritage as `one of the finest in England'. Restored by the Ware Society, it consists of underground passages and chambers decorated with flints, shells, minerals and stones, and extends 67ft into the side of the hill. Please wear flat shoes and bring a torch, as the grotto is not lit, this is essential.
