Home of the Lytton family since 1490, the original Tudor Manor was transformed in 1843 by the spectacular high Gothic decoration of Victorian novelist Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton. The formal gardens, laid out by Edwin Lutyens in 1908, include a Gertrude Jekyll herb garden, a maze, an organically-run, walled kitchen garden and a dinosaur trail, comprising 72 life-size models set grazing and hunting amongst the rhododendrons and the redwoods. The 250-acres of rolling parkland include a giant adventure playground and miniature railway. There are many special events.
