The Vyne

SHERBORNE ST JOHN, Basingstoke, RG24 9HL

Write a review

Built in the early 16th-century for Lord Sandys, the Vyne was visited by Henry VIII at least three times. The house later became home to the Chute family for 350 years. The building is a fascinating microcosm of architectural and design fads and fashions through the centuries. Visitors can view the family's original collection of art and sculpture, and the garden and grounds are very popular for walking. A wetlands area with bird hide attracts a wide diversity of wildlife. The recently restored Victorian glass house is within the walled kitchen garden.
