Clearwell Caves Ancient Iron Mines

These impressive natural caves have been mined since the earliest times for paint pigment and iron ore. Today visitors explore nine large caverns with displays of local mining and geology. There is a colour room where ochre pigments are still produced, and a blacksmith shop. Deep level excursions are available for more adventurous visitors, but must be pre-booked. There is a Christmas fantasy event when the caverns are transformed into a magical world of light and sound.
