Ireland's premier Botanic Gardens covers a total area of 19.5 hectares (48 acres), part of which is the natural flood plain of the River Tolka. The Gardens contain a large plant collection, which includes approximately 20,000 species and cultivated varieties. There are four ranges of glasshouses including the restored Curvilinear Range and the Great Palm House. Notable features include herbaceous borders, rose garden, rockery, alpine yard, arboretum, extensive shrub collections, wall plants and vegetable garden.
