The Museum tells the story of Chesterfield from its beginning as a Roman fort on Rykneild Street to the building of the 'Crooked Spire' Church and its growth as a market town. Chesterfield's most famous Victorian resident, George Stephenson, the 'Father of the Railways' is also featured. The displays continue the story of the town to the present day. There is a small art gallery in the museum and a programme of events.
