Dalemain Historic House & Gardens
Description
Originally a mediaeval pele tower, Dalemain was added to in Tudor times, and the imposing Georgian facade was completed in 1745. It has oak panelling, Chinese wallpaper, Tudor plasterwork and fine period furniture. The tower contains the Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry Museum, and there is a countryside collection in the 16th-century Great Barn. The gardens include a collection of old fashioned roses, and in early summer a magnificent display of blue Himalayan poppies.
