"The danger with some finance roles is there's always the possibility you end up simply being a number cruncher. That's certainly very far from being the case at the AA. Before I joined the company seven years ago, I was working for quite a small organisation. So when I saw an ad in the press for a Finance Specialist, I jumped at the chance to work for such a large and well-respected name. And I haven't been disappointed.
"These days I'm responsible for the Road Sales & Marketing budget - which is some £68m. So as you can imagine, it takes a lot of careful management. My role centres on reporting and analysing business performance, and working with the business to ensure that we are on track to achieve our targets. I also provide ad-hoc support to the Sales & Marketing team on a range of issues.
"I suppose the most rewarding part of my job comes from working closely with the sales and marketing team, and learning about the projects/campaigns that we are working to deliver as a business. I've also been fortunate to have the AA's support in my studies. As well as helping me towards my ACCA, I've benefited from a range of off-site management and software training courses.
"There's always something new to focus on and plenty of opportunity to develop."
