Action: Recall the affected vehicles and 1) Check build date and replace clutch master cylinder where required. 2) Fit a water shield to the brake servo to protect the servo push rod. 3) Check the routing of the front brake hoses, re-routing where required. Recall: No. 5 of 15
Recall Ref: R1996/084
Exact Model: And Courier models with manual transmission
Description: POSSIBLE CONTAMINATION OF BRAKE FLUID
VIN: SS, ST, SJ, SU, SM, SP, TB, TR, TA, TG, TC, TK, TD & TE
Build Date: 1 July 1995 to 31 July 1996
Numbers: 81000
Defect: The clutch system hydraulic hoses have been manufactured from a material which contains mineral oil. Since the clutch and brake systems share a common fluid reservoir fluid from the clutch system which has been contaminated by contact with the hoses may migrate to the brake system. This could cause damage to the seals in the brake master cylinder and result in reduced braking efficiency.
Action: Recall the affected vehicles for the fitment of new seals to the brake master cylinder. At the same time the brake/clutch hydraulic systems will be purged of the original fluid and new clutch hoses will be fitted. In addition, vehicles built prior to 13 May 1996 will have additional work carried out on certain braking system components as proposed in R1996/059
Launch Date: 18 September 1996

Description: FAILURE OF BRAKING SYSTEM VACUUM ASSISTANCE
VIN: SY, SS, ST, SJ, SU, SM, SP, TB, TR
Build Date: 19 June 1995 to various dates
Numbers: 0
Defect: The brake vacuum pump may cease to provide vacuum assistance. Should this occur, greater brake pedal pressure would be needed and stopping distances may be increased.
Action: The affected vehicles are being recalled to Ford dealers to have the brake pump manufacturing codes checked. Vacuum pumps within certain ranges will be replaced with new units. This campaign supercedes recall R1995/081 and includes all the vehicles already reworked or pending action under that recall.
Launch Date: 23 January 1996
