Company Car Tax Calculators
Key to data required in calculators
The table below provides definitions of the terms used in these calculators: the Cash or Car Calculator, the Private Fuel Benefit Calculator and the Car Tax Calculator.
| Input | Description |
| Average annual private miles | Used along with MPG and fuel cost to calculate the cost of buying your own fuel for private mileage if you don't take free fuel from you employer. |
| Engine (cc) | Together with the type of fuel, the engine size determines the private fuel scale charge that applies if you receive free fuel for private use of a company car. Engine size is also used to determine the appropriate Inland Revenue Approved Mileage Rate (pence per mile) for reimbursement of business miles. If you followed the link to pick up list price and options data then this field will also be pre-filled. |
| Fuel cost per litre | Used along with private mileage and MPG to calculate the cost of buying your own fuel for private mileage if you don't take free fuel from you employer. Also used to calculate the cost to you of buying fuel for business mileage if you opt out of a company car. Calculations assume that fuel price doesn't change over the term. |
| Fuel type | Select petrol or diesel. Private fuel scale benefits are different for petrol and diesel and under the new CO2 based tax rules a premium is charged for diesel cars. If you followed the link to pick up list price and options data then this field will also be pre-filled. |
| Gross cash allowance paid in lieu of private fuel | Some employers pay a monthly or annual cash allowance to employees who choose not to take a free fuel benefit for private use. Once taxed this allowance offsets some of the cost to you of buying fuel for private use. Enter the gross annual value of the allowance. |
| MPG | Used along with mileage and fuel cost to calculate the cost of buying your own fuel for private mileage if you don't take free fuel from you employer. If you followed the link to pick up list price and options data then this field will also be pre-filled. |
| Personal tax rate | Select the highest rate of income tax that you pay. |
| European emissions standard | Under the new rules diesel cars are normally subject to a 3% supplement up to the maximum charge of 35%.
This supplement is waived for cars that meet the EC emissions standard known as Euro IV. The Euro Standard is shown on the registration document for cars first registered after 01 March 2001 and is also included in information available in our Car Buyer's Guide section.
